You can find a locking file cabinet available in metal in a variety of colors including black, charcoal, light gray, putty, parchment and white. They can also be found made from a variety of other materials including wood, and even wicker. However, it may be difficult to find a locking file cabinet in wicker, but they can be found in metal and wood.

Here are some other things to take into consideration before you purchase a locking file cabinet:
Will the file cabinet be used every day or used infrequently? If it is intended for daily use, go for steel construction or it won’t hold up very well.
Appearance and Design Features:
- does it come with a pre-installed lock (some cabinets require that you purchase the file cabinet lock separately)
- is it fireproof (fireproof file cabinets are significantly higher in price, but may be worth the extra cost)
- is it of steel construction and intended for heavy-duty use
- if it is letter-size, does it have high-sided drawers that can accommodate a legal conversion bar
- does it have a counterweight to prevent tipping
- do the file drawers lock when opened to prevent content from spilling out
- if the lock is pre-installed, can it be changed
