Locking File Cabinets

Locking File Cabinet Best Deals

If having a locking file cabinet is important, there are lots of models from which to choose. You’ll probably want to go with one constructed of steel for additional security.

Welcome to our website!

File cabinets were considered office furniture in the past, but today you will find them in just about every home. It’s no wonder, as both offices and homes have a need to keep papers organized. Whatever your needs might be, you will be able to find a locking file cabinet that suits those needs.

When it came time for us to purchase new file cabinets for our office, the best deal that we found was at Office Depot. We purchased two four drawer vertical file cabinets. Both file cabinets arrived on time and from the appearance of the boxes they looked great. However, after the delivery truck left and we began unpacking the cabinets, we discovered that one of them was slightly bent on the side, preventing one of the drawers from sliding freely.

It only took one phone call to Office Depot Customer Service to have a replacement delivered. We were really impressed with the ease and speed with which this was handled. So, that’s the reason we’re recommending file cabinets found at Office Depot. We’ve had them for nearly two years now and couldn’t be more pleased with the purchase. The quality of the cabinets is very good and the customer service we received was excellent!

File cabinets range from plain to fancy, vertical to horizontal, letter size to legal size, and mobile to stationary. These cabinets will provide you with the space needed to keep all your files organized and at your finger tips, making finding what you’re looking for an easy task.

You can find a locking file cabinet available in metal in a variety of colors including black, charcoal, light gray, putty, parchment and white. They can also be found made from a variety of other materials including wood, and even wicker. However, it may be difficult to find a locking file cabinet in wicker, but they can be found in metal and wood.

If you decide on a wooden locking file cabinet you will find them available in Maple, Oak, Light Cherry, Medium Cherry and Dark Cherry.

You can also find locking file cabinets that are on casters, making them mobile.

Vertical locking file cabinets are available in 2 drawers (usually around 29 inches high), 3 drawers (usually around 36 inches high), 4 drawers (usually around 49 inches high) and 5 drawers. The width on a letter-size vertical locking file cabinet is normally 15 inches and 18 to 19 inches for one that is legal-size. If you have limited wall space, a vertical locking file cabinet may be a better choice.

Lateral locking file cabinets are also available in 2 drawers (usually 29 inches high) 3 drawers (usually 41 inches high) and 4 drawers (usually 53 inches high). The width on these range anywhere from 30 to 43 inches, and slightly deeper than vertical files. Lateral file cabinet drawers do not extend out as far as the drawers of a vertical file cabinet. A lateral file cabinet may be a better choice if you have limited floor space in front of the cabinet.

Here are some other things to take into consideration before you purchase a locking file cabinet:

Will the file cabinet be used every day or used infrequently? If it is intended for daily use, go for steel construction or it won’t hold up very well.

Appearance and Design Features:

  • does it come with a pre-installed lock (some cabinets require that you purchase the file cabinet lock separately)
  • is it fireproof (fireproof file cabinets are significantly higher in price, but may be worth the extra cost)
  • is it of steel construction and intended for heavy-duty use
  • if it is letter-size, does it have high-sided drawers that can accommodate a legal conversion bar
  • does it have a counterweight to prevent tipping
  • do the file drawers lock when opened to prevent content from spilling out
  • if the lock is pre-installed, can it be changed

Yes, there’s no doubt about it… office file cabinets are absolute necessities in the workplace as well as in home offices today. It would be safe to think that computers would drastically reduce the need for file cabinets. However, that doesn’t seem to be the case by the number of enterpreneurs shopping for file cabinets. If you haven’t shopped for one in recent years, I hope you’ve found information on this website that will help you with your final decision.
